No. 4 Tar Heels Travel To Wake Forest Friday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 4 North Carolina men's soccer team hits the road for its second consecutive ACC road contest on Friday when the Tar Heels take on Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Tar Heels bounced back from a 1-0 overtime setback at Virginia Tech with a 4-1 rout of James Madison on Tuesday and will look to continue the trend Friday against the Demon Deacons.
Carolina will head west to take on Wake Forest in a conference showdown on Friday looking for its first ACC win of the season. The Tar Heels had their 10-match ACC regular season unbeaten streak snapped last Saturday when Virginia Tech pulled off the home upset.
The Tar Heels bounced back with a 4-1 drubbing of James Madison on Tuesday after a 1-1 first half, the offense erupted for three goals in the second half to put the match away.
Wake Forest is coming off back-to-back 2-1 home wins over Clemson and Cleveland State in the past week.
National Rankings
The Tar Heels were pegged the No. 1 team in the country last week before the 1-0 setback at Virginia Tech. Carolina slipped as low as No. 8 (NSCAA) in the most recent polls and are as high as No. 4 (CSN). The Tar Heels are also tabbed No. 5 in the nation by Soccer America and are Top Drawer Soccer's No. 4 team.
Wake Forest is unranked entering the contest.
Series History
Carolina leads the all-time series with the Demon Deacons by a slim 20-10-8 margin. Carolina has captured two of the last three meetings between the teams, including a 1-0 victory in the 2008 NCAA College Cup Semifinal.
The win in the 2008 College Cup snapped a five-match winless streak for the Tar Heels agains the Demon Deacons.
Last year's meeting saw Michael Farfan score in the 22nd minute to give UNC a 1-0 win, thanks to a key save in the final seconds by Scott Goodwin on a free kick from 25 yards out.
