Chapel Hill, N.C.- Pitching dominated Sunday afternoon's eight inning scrimmage that ended in a 3-3 tie. The home team Heel squad took a 3-0 lead into the eighth before the away Tar team rallied with three runs to tie the game.
Heel took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Cody Stubbs double to left. They scored twice more in the sixth after an error and two walks loaded the bases with no outs. One run scored on a wild pitch, then a second run scored on a Josh Ake double to left center.
Tar rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Tommy Coyle singled to right to drive in the first run of the inning, then Mike Zolk's two run double down the left field line tied the score at 3-3.
Heel had a runner at second with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and last inning before a sharp Michael Russell to short ended the game.
The Heels will scrimmage again on Monday. TarHeelBlue will have exclusive coverage of all of Carolina's preseason scrimmages.
