CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 15 Texas outlasted No. 17 North Carolina by a 5-2 margin Sunday afternoon in dual match play at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Center. The loss propelled the Longhorns to 5-1 on the season, while the Tar Heels dropped to 2-3. The contest was Carolina's 5th consecutive match against a Top-25 opponent as well as first dual match in Chapel Hill this season.

The Tar Heels began the contest in fine form, rolling through doubles play by a 2-1 advantage. The No. 1 doubles match featured a battle between identical siblings, in which Texas' Soren Hess-Olesen teamed up with Alex Hilliard to take down Esben Hess-Olesen and Brennan Boyajian (8-3). Carolina then went on the win the remaining two doubles contests. In singles play, Boyajian concluded first, falling to No. 112 Daniel Whitehead (6-1, 6-1) at No. 2 singles to level the score at 1-1. However, William Parker surged back, taking down Joey Swaysland (6-3, 6-3) at No. 6 singles to reposition Carolina on top 2-1. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, Texas would then sweep the remainder of the singles matches. Chris Camillone knocked off Oystein Steiro (6-4, 6-3) at No. 5 singles and Lloyd Glasspool beat Joey Burkhardt (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) at No. 4.

In a tightly fought battle at No. 3 singles, Esben Hess-Olesen rebounded from a 5-3 deficit in the final set to force a tie break before ultimately falling 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-2). Jose Hernandez rounded out the Carolina contingent at No. 1 singles, coming up short against Soren Hess-Olesen 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.

The Tar Heels next square off against Navy on Friday at 3:00 PM. Admission is free at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
