• No. 6 North Carolina will face its second straight ranked opponent in a weekend series as the Tar Heels travel to Clemson, S.C. to take on the No. 17 Clemson Tigers.
• The Tar Heels will open ACC play on the road for the third straight year after opening at Duke in 2010 (1-2) and at Wake Forest (1-2) last year.
• Carolina swept the season series with Clemon a year ago as the Tar Heels claimed 13-3, 9-5 and 5-4 wins over the Tigers in Chapel Hill.
National Rankings
• The Tar Heels were pegged in the top 10 of every preseason poll after being excluded from several preseason rankings a year ago.
• Carolina stayed steady in the polls this week after falling a few spots after the 2-1 series win over Xavier.
• The Tar Heels top out at No. 6 as Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game all have UNC ranked No. 6 this week.
• Carolina moved up a spot in the Baseball America poll this week and checks in at No. 8.
• Clemson tops out at No. 17 in the NCBWA poll.
• The Tigers are also ranked 19th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, while Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball have the Tigers ranked No. 20
North Carolina-Clemson Series
• Clemson owns a 96-81-1 advantage in the series but the Tar Heels have had the upper hand since the rivalry was renewed in the 2008 season with a 10-3 advantage.
• Carolina has won 5 of the last 6 in Clemson with a sweep in 2008 and a series win in 2010.
• In the home sweep a year ago Colin Moran turned in a solid series with a five hits and a team-high seven RBI.
• On the mound relievers Michael Morin and Cody Penny each notched wins, while senior Patrick Johnson struck out 11 in the Friday night win.
• Friday and Saturday starters Kent Emanuel and Chris Munnelly each started against the Tigers in 2011 and each picked up no decisions.
• Emanuel allowed two runs, one earned, over 6.1 innings of work with six strikeouts, while Munnelly also allowed two runs over five innings.
