North Carolina Places Fifth at NCAA Regional

Raleigh, N.C. - North Carolina came in fifth place Saturday at the NCAA Gymnastics Regional in Raleigh at Reynolds Coliseum. The Heels finished with a score of 194.025. The University of Florida was in first place with a 197.325.
Carolina competed first on the floor exercise, totaling a 48.625. Seniors Morgan Evans and Krista Jasper tied at 9.800, the top two scorers for the Heels. They tied for 12th place overall. Freshman Haley Watts was next, earning a 9.725. Senior Taylor Brown and junior Michelle Ikoma each finished with a 9.650.
The Heels were on the vault next, combining for a season-high 49.025. Evans led UNC with a 9.900, tying her personal best, and tying for fourth place overall. Junior Elizabeth Durkac earned a new personal high at 9.800. Brown, Watts, and senior Zoya Johnson tied at 9.775, which is a new personal best for Watts.
On the uneven bars, UNC totaled a 47.600, with Evans leading her team with a 9.850 and tying for fourth place overall. Durkac earned a new personal best at 9.825 tying for tenth place, and Johnson followed with a 9.700. Brown finished at 9.600 and sophomore Acacia Cosentino rounded out the event at 8.625.
Finishing the day, the Heels earned a 48.775 on the balance beam. Durkac led UNC at 9.850, tying her personal best, and tying for third place overall. Watts and fellow freshman Janell Sargent tied at 9.750, a personal best for Watts, and tying Sargent's. The two tied for 17th place.b Evans earned a 9.725 and Jasper finished with a 9.700.
Evans was UNC's top all-around scorer at 39.275, finishing fifth overall. Durkac finished with a 39.025 overall.
Evans' all-around finish qualifies her to move on to the NCAA Finals April 20 in Duluth, Georgia at The Arena at the Gwinnett Center.
