Carolina Golfers Finish 10th At NCAA Championships

FRANKLIN, TENN. - The No. 6 ranked University of North Carolina women's golf team finished in 10th place at the NCAA Championships played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Tar Heels carded an 11-over-par 299 in the final round for a 32-over 1184 total. Carolina was led on Friday by Katherine Perry who fired a 1-over-par 73.
Sophomore Perry tied for eighth place in the individual race with a 3-over 291 total, nine strokes behind the champion. Perry, from Cary, N.C., played her last six holes in 2-under-parp. Seniors Catherine O'Donnell and Allie White both carded a 4-over 76 on Friday. O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. finished with a 12-over 300 total to tie for 59th while White, from Lancaster, Ohio, finished at 15-over 303 and tied for 71st. Sophomore Casey Grice and junior Courtney Gunter both fired a 3-over 75 in the final round. Grice, from College Station, Texas, finished at 13-over 301 to tie for 63rd place while Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., tied for 84th at 17-over 305.
Alabama, which led throughout the event, captured the team title with a slim one-stroke victory of Southern California. The Crimson Tide fired a 6-over 294 in the final round for a 19-over 1171 total while the Trojans carded a 5-over 293 for a 20-over 1172 total. LSU finished in third place at 21-over 1173 while Virginia finished fourth at 1175 and South Carolina fifth at 1176. Oklahoma and Arizona State tied for sixth place with 1179 totals while UCLA finished eighth at 1181, Purdue ninth at 1182 and Carolina 10th with an 1184 total.
Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma captured the individual title by firing a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish at 6-under 282. She posted a 4-stroke win over Brooke Pancake of Alabama who carded a 2-under 282 total. LSU's Tessa Teachman and Purdue's Laura Gonzalez tied for third place at 1-under 287. Katie Burnett of South Carolina finished fifth at even par 288 while Duke's Lindy Duncan and NC State's Brittany Marchand tied for sixth place at 2-over 290. Five players tied for eighth place at 3-over 291 - Carolina's Perry, Arizona State's Giulia Molinaro, Virginia's Portland Rosen and Texas Tech's Gabriella Dominguez and Kimberly Kaufman.
The 72 hole event was played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club which featured a par 72, 6,264-yard layout in the final round.
