Adam Warren To Make MLB Debut Friday
June 29, 2012 | Baseball
Former North Carolina pitcher Adam Warren will make his Major League Baseball debut Friday when he takes the mound for the New York Yankees against the Chicago White Sox. Warren becomes the 16th player to reach the big leagues under head coach Mike Fox during his 14 years as the Carolina skipper.
Warren will become the seventh Tar Heel to make his Major League debut since the beginning of the 2011 season which is the most of any school in the country. Nebraska has had five big leaguers debut in the last two years, while Arkansas, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and Rice have all had four.
Warren finished his four-year career as a Tar Heel as one of the top pitchers in school history as he posted a 32-4 mark. His .889 winning percentage is still the top winning percentage in school history.
Warren posted a perfect 12-0 mark as a sophomore in 2007, which ranks as the most wins without a loss for any Tar Heel pitcher.
In addition to his work on the diamond, Warren was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist and earned Academic All-America honors as a senior.
The Cleveland Indians selected Warren in the 36th round of the 2008 MLB Draft but Warren elected to return to North Carolina for his senior season. The New York Yankees then tabbed him in the fourth round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
In four seasons in the minors, Warren has posted a 26-22 record with a 3.05 ERA in 79 career starts. Warren was 5-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 15 starts this season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees of the Triple A International League.
