CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Benton Moss allowed one run in six innings and Mike Zolk had a two-run single to help North Carolina beat East Carolina 5-3 on Sunday in an NCAA elimination game in the Chapel Hill Regional.
The top-seeded Tar Heels (46-15), the tournament's No. 6 seed, managed five hits but took advantage of eight walks. Cody Stubbs and Jacob Stallings added RBI flyouts, and Brian Holberton had an RBI single.
Moss (7-2) took the win, allowing six hits.
Reliever Michael Morin bounced back from giving up a three-run homer in Saturday's loss to St. John's by earning a school and Atlantic Coast Conference record 19th save, setting up a rematch with the Red Storm later Sunday.
Tim Younger had three hits for the second-seeded Pirates (36-24-1), who lost 16 of 29 to close the year.
Jharel Cotton (8-3) took the loss, allowing three hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings.
