Carolina Signee Drafted On Day One Of MLB Draft

University of North Carolina baseball signee Matt Smoral was selected in the supplemental round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Monday. Smoral was tabbed 50th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays during Monday night's portion of the MLB Draft.
Smoral is a power left-hander with a power slider and is ranked as one of the top left-handed pitchers in the country. Ranked the No. 3 player in the country by Perfect Game and No. 6 overall in the 2012 class by Baseball America.
Perfect Game tabbed Smoral as the No. 32 prospect in the 2012 MLB Draft, while Baseball America had the 6-8 left-hander No. 24 overall.
Smoral missed a majority of his final high school campaign at Solon High School in Solon, Ohio due to a broken bone in his right foot.
The Toronto Blue Jays will retain the rights to Smoral until the 2012 signing deadline of July 13.
