Former North Carolina soccer star Brian Shriver has been making an impact for the Carolina RailHawks this season and will help lead the RailHawks in another U.S. Open Cup match against an MLS side on Tuesday. Shriver and the RailHawks will take on Chivas USA Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Cary after the former Tar Heel netted the game winner against LA Galaxy a week ago.
Shriver has found the back of the net five times during the U.S. Open Cup competition in his first year with the Carolina RailHawks. Shriver was tabbed in the second round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft but elected to finish his degree at Carolina before testing the professional waters.
The Clearwater, Fla., native played with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers from 2009-11 before signing with the RailHawks in mid-February of 2012.
Other former Tar Heels excelling in professional soccer include:
• Michael Callahan - Has appeared in seven matches this season for the Richmond Kickers who are 3-2-5 in the USL Pro.
• Jamie Watson - Played in nine matches with eight starts for USL Pro side Orlando City SC. Watson has tallied a goal and an assist on the year for Orlando City.
