Chapel Hill - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team played five exhibition scrimmages over this past weekend in Maryland, and head coach Jenny Levy is pleased with the progress her squad made on the road trip.
The defending NCAA champion Tar Heels took part in the U.S. Naval Academy's fall tournament on Saturday, playing Navy, James Madison, Notre Dame and Stanford while splitting playing time as evenly as possible between starters and reserves.
On Sunday, Carolina played Northwestern at the Severn School in Severn, Md.
"We played well and did a lot of good things this weekend," Levy said on Monday. "We weren't perfect, because we are working through some things. But overall it was a good weekend for us.
"We want to do things the right way, the way we want to do them with the right fundamentals. You can never stop improving your fundamentals, and this weekend helped show us some of what is going well for us and some of what still need to work on."
Carolina's fall schedule is nearly complete. On Saturday Oct. 26, the Tar Heels will wrap up their autumn slate at Duke's tournament in Durham, N.C.
