DALLAS, TEXAS - North Carolina finished fourth Saturday night in the SMU Swimming and Diving Classic at Perkins Natatorium.
In a field of national caliber programs the team race was a tightly bunched one throughout the two nights of competition. USC finished first with 312 points followed by Indiana with 304.5, Louisville with 280, North Carolina with 276, SMU with 275.5 and Miami with 176.
"At the end of three days of intense racing and travel we still had some great efforts and results this evening in the SMU Classic," said UNC head coach Rich DeSelm. "Our night was highlighted by some lifetime best swims from Sarah Koucheki in the 200 fly, Hellen Moffitt in the 200 back, Ally Hardesty in the 100 free and Hannah Lincoln in the 200 fly. Junior diver Natalie Ritter had a great weekend for us on the boards with two wins earlier today against TCU and a second place tonight."
Of the nine events on the second night of the Classic, UNC claimed one individual title and had runner-up finishes in four other events.
UNC's top finisher on the night was sophomore Ally Hardesty who captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.95.
Carolina swimmers and divers garnered a number of runner-up finishes on the second night of the meet.
Senior Stephanie Peacock capped a tremendous weekend of swimming by taking second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.55.
Sarah Koucheki finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.26. That moves the talented freshman into fourth place overall in the event in Carolina history behind only Meredith Hoover, Cari Blalock and Katie Nolan.
Junior Natalie Ritter claimed her second runner-up finish of the Classic in diving competition. She finished second Saturday in three-meter diving with a score of 282.80 points.
Senior Cari Blalock also took a second place finish for the Tar Heels, taking the runner-up spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.73.
