The resources and information available on this page are intended to provide a foundation for our Department's collective efforts to manage risk and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
All individuals are reminded of the importance of following the Department's "Up and Out" Incident Reporting Guidelines. Individuals should also communicate all other non-immediate safety or security questions and concerns to Paul Pogge by calling 919-843-7690.
In addition, Department staff should review information on the Department's NCAA Compliance page and other items periodically provided by the Compliance Office. Each individual's efforts to mitigate risk in their respective area(s) are critically important. Through proactive vigilance, communication, and accountability in each area of our Department, we can collectively foster a compliant and safe atmosphere conducive to the fulfillment of our mission.
Purpose: These guidelines are intended to help you report information if you see or become aware of suspicious behavior or circumstances, something which may threaten the safety or security of an individual (including harassment and discrimination), something which may threaten the safety or security of the University, or something you suspect to be a crime.

During the hours of 8:30 - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday (except University holidays), the involved employee should report directly (no appointment needed) to the University Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC), located at 145 North Medical Drive (2nd Floor) in the AHEC building (formally known as the Health Affairs Bookstore). The phone number is 919-966-9119.
For life-threatening or after-hours situations needing immediate medical care, the involved employee should proceed directly to the UNCH Emergency Room.
Note: If immediate medical care is not needed, the employee can report to the UEOHC the following day.
In instances of death or hospitalization, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) must be notified immediately. During working hours, the appropriate number to call is 919-962-5507. Outside of normal working hours, calls from on-campus locations should be made to 9-1-1. Public Safety will then contact EHS. Calls from off-campus locations should be made to 9-1-1, after which time the appropriate person should contact EHS.
If the incident occurs at an athletic event not held on or near campus and the employee needs to seek outside medical treatment, the following protocols should be followed:
1) The employee must inform the local medical provider that they are "covered by the University's Workers' Compensation" so that EHS is billed directly;
2) The employee should provide the EHS address for medical billing purposes; and
3) If after-hour verbal authorization is needed, the appropriate individual should contact EHS directly.

Severe weather can be a serious threat to safety. The policy below was developed to ensure weather conditions are monitored. It is also intended to provide guidance to individuals when severe weather is present.

Purpose:
This training video and the Department of Athletics Vehicle Use Policy are intended to work in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Administration's Motor Fleet Management Regulations and should be construed to provide additional protections thereto, not so as to contradict the provisions thereof in any way. The Department of Athletics Vehicle Use Policy was established to define the acceptable use and safe operation of vehicles rented or owned by the Department of Athletics, including both 12- and 15-passenger vans, by appropriate individuals while transporting University employees, students, or other individuals on official University business. The Vehicle Use Policy is not intended to cover car rentals by Department of Athletics employees when the rental car will not be used to transport University students.

Vehicle Use PolicyThe Department of Athletics purchases, creates, maintains, and distributes various items of valuable inventory each year. These items include, but are not limited to: tickets, parking passes, credentials, merchandise, apparel, and equipment. It is imperative that the Department's assets be accounted for in an appropriate manner at all times. Furthermore, these items should always be properly safeguarded and only used, sold, or otherwise distributed as appropriate.
