Great news from Sylvia Hatchell yesterday:

There's video of Coach Hatchell leaving the hospital:
Football
This writer's theory is that Marquise Williams should be more comfortable against Virginia...Williams will be throwing against a Cavalier secondary that is having major depth chart issues...Larry Fedora isn't allowing his team to do anything other than focus on Virginia...Here's the uniforms the Tar Heels will wear for homecoming against the Cavaliers:
@TarHeelFootball uniform combo for this week is black helmet, blue jersey and black pant against UVA. #GoHeels pic.twitter.com/siDFLEfYH1

And here's how the field will look (see the difference in the argyle?) on Saturday:

Tar Heels in the NFL
Cincinnati has no plans to give Gio more touches. These plans seem like a bad idea...What kind of impact has Gio made? He's one of the focal points for the Ravens defense in advance of Sunday's game. Some very complimentary quotes in that link.
Basketball
As you've heard by now, P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald will not play tonight...Adam Lucas column on the immediate ramifications of their absence...With the season starting tonight against Oakland in the Smith Center, here's a look at the leadership of the 2013-14 Tar Heels...Interesting perspective from a national voice: James Michael McAdoo may be getting too much criticism...One of the most frequent questions we get for every game: how can I watch/listen to the game? We've prepared a page with all the answers to those questions, plus broadcast crew information and more. Bookmark that link, and it will be updated for each game...
Carolina's post players hope to show some progress this year, with interesting insight from Eric Montross on the growth curve of a big man...Some great memories from former players about the first ten seasons of Roy Williams' head coaching career at UNC...Luke Winn's power rankings are always informative, and the preseason edition includes an interesting tidbit on UNC's (No. 11) two-point shooting last season...Check back throughout the day, as we've got lots of basketball coverage for the site during the day, and complete postgame coverage tonight...
The easiest way to watch yesterday's press conference is this three-minute recap with all the highlights:
One player who will definitely be at the Smith Center tonight: Marcus Paige. An update on his preseason:
Tar Heels in the NBA
Danny Green is breaking out of an early season funk...Harrison Barnes was outstanding in his season debut, and teammates and coaches were impressed...The Knicks are 1-3, and Raymond Felton apologized to New York fans yesterday...Tyler Hansbrough isn't sentimental about playing the Pacers tonight. Also includes Josh McRoberts saying that he doesn't think he and Hansbrough were ever rivals in college. Uh, Josh?...Ty Lawson had 23 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to help the Nuggets get their first win. He was one of the NBA's stars of the night...John Henson made the most of a starting opportunity on Wednesday.
Olympic sports
Great deal if you're coming to campus today: any fan with a ticket to the men's basketball game gets free admission to the women's basketball game (4:30) and men's soccer game (7:00).
Freshmen Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter both won their opening matches and will play again today at National Indoors...The field hockey team defeated Wake Forest at the ACC Tournament and will face second-seeded Syracuse in the semifinals this afternoon...Goalkeeper Brendan Moore has played a key role for men's soccer...Women's basketball gets started today against Air Force...Former ballboy Chipper Root has lived a dream for men's soccer. It's his senior night tonight...Very good profile of volleyball coach Joe Sagula, one of the nicest guys on campus...
Very cool: the women's lacrosse team received their NCAA championship rings yesterday:

Today's games
Tennis continues play in the National Indoors, fencing is at the North American Cup in Cleveland, and women's soccer plays Florida State in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Cary (watch on ESPN3).
It's a very busy day in Chapel Hill: women's tennis hosts the Kitty Harrison Cup, women's hoops hosts Air Force at 4:30 (watch on GoHeels TV), men's soccer hosts NC State at 7 p.m. (watch on GoHeels TV) and has no plans for a special midfield logo, volleyball hosts Clemson at 8 p.m. (watch on GoHeels TV), and men's basketball opens the season against Oakland at the Smith Center at 9 p.m. (how to find the game on TV or watch on ESPN3).
Today in Tar Heel history
Nov. 8, 1913: One hundred years ago today, something very important happened for Carolina basketball: Frank McGuire was born. The New Yorker would eventually become the head coach of UNC's undefeated 1957 national champions, a team that was extremely important in bringing college hoops hysteria to the state of North Carolina (someone might have even written a book about it that would make a fine gift for your favorite Tar Heel fan).
Long read
This feels a little odd, but have you ever wanted to walk through Michael Jordan's 59,000 square foot house? Now you can, because the company selling it has put up a video tour. Go to the 3:35 mark if you're mostly interested in seeing his personal full-size basketball court and the stories that go along with it.
