Tar Heel Spotlight: Elena Covert
February 19, 2013 | Softball
GoHeels.com will be highlighting each Carolina softball player throughout the 2013 season. Today's Tar Heel spotlight is with Elena Covert, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C.
GoHeels.com: Best memory of your softball career so far?
Elena Covert: My favorite memory in my softball carreer so far is probably in ASA States a few years back. We lost to one team on Sunday morning for our first loss, and then played three more games to make it to the championship game where we had to win twice. We won both games for a total of six games and about 15 hours of softball in one day. We were all exhausted but really persevered and rallied together to make it a great day.
GH: How did you get started playing softball?
EC: I think I was inspired by my dad and brother, who both played baseball, and I wanted to try it out for myself. I began with T-ball when I was 4 or so, where I was 1 of only 2 girls on the team. After a season or 2 in T-ball, I joined my first softball team and haven't stopped since.
GH: Why Carolina?
EC: Because not only are the academics top of the line, I also want to be a part of the legacy being built.
GH: What is your dream profession?
EC: To work in product development at Nike.
GH: What is your favorite class this semester?
EC: My favorite class this semester is probably chemistry. It's a lot of work, but I'm kind of in to the maths and sciences, so I enjoy it more than English and classes like that.
GH: What is your favorite pre-game snack?
EC: My favorite pre-game snack has to be a banana with peanut butter!
GH: What is your walk-up song?
EC: "All the Above" by Maino
GH: If you played another sport, what would it be?
EC: If I played another sport, it would probably be basketball because I played that most of my life too. I would also like to play tennis or soccer!
