Carolina Pulls Away From Elon

ELON, N.C. -- No. 1 North Carolina scored 14 runs after the fifth inning
to claim its 30th win of the year Tuesday night at Elon (20-14), 15-3.
The Tar Heels (30-2) overcame a 2-1 deficit entering the sixth inning and
scored four runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, five in the eighth and four
more in the ninth to blow the game open.
Carolina's top four hitters combined to go 11-for-20 with 10 runs scored and
seven RBIs, with Brian Holberton, Colin Moran and Skye Bolt all picking up
three hits apiece and Landon Lassiter adding a pair.
The Tar Heels hit a pair of home runs in the five-run eighth inning as Matt
Roberts hit his second, a solo shot, before Skye Bolt connected on a two-run
shot to dead center field, his sixth of the campaign.
Senior Chris Munnelly improved to 3-0 on the year as he threw 5.1 innings of
three-run ball. Sophomore Chris McCue came on to get the Tar Heels out of
trouble in the sixth inning and threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief while the
Carolina bats blew the game open.
Ten different Tar Heels recorded a hit on the night, while nine batters registered a RBI. Sophomore Mike Zolk singled home a pair of runs on the day, while freshman Matt Campbell tallied his first career hit, a RBI triple in the ninth inning.
Carolina will return to Boshamer Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest against Liberty Wednesday night.
