CHAPEL HILL - Spring sports got into crunch time with big games and NCAA Tournament play last week, and there was off-season news from some fall and winter sports. Make sure you didn't miss any of the action with the GoHeels Weekly Primer.
BASEBALL: On Tuesday evening, the Tar Heels broke from final exams and beat James Madison, 9-5 ... Carolina beat the Dukes again on Wednesday in a rain-shortened affair ... The Tar Heels added a regular season game against Florida State ... Georgia Tech beat the Tar Heels on Friday night ... UNC allowed just three hits in Saturday's win ... On Sunday, the Yellow Jackets took the series, 9-8 in extra innings ... UP NEXT: Carolina will host Appalachian State on Tuesday, then host Virginia in a three-game series starting on Thursday.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Tar Heels learned they will visit Michigan State next season in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
FOOTBALL: Carolina will open the 2015 season in Charlotte vs. South Carolina ... Adam Lucas explains how the game is a natural fit.
MEN'S LACROSSE: Marcus Holman was named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the national player of the year ... Carolina beat Lehigh, 16-7, in Saturday's NCAA first round ... UP NEXT: Carolina will face Denver on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis with a berth in the NCAA semifinals at stake.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE: There was big news on Thursday, as Kara Cannizzaro was named one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award ... The Tar Heels ran past Loyola on Sunday in the NCAA Tournament second round ... UP NEXT: Carolina will host Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the NCAA quarterfinals.
ROWING: Carolina finished sixth at the ACC Championships on Sunday.
SOFTBALL: In Thursday's ACC Tournament opener, Carolina beat Georgia Tech, 6-2 ... UP NEXT: Carolina wil open NCAA Tournament play on Thursday against Wisconsin in Eugene, Ore.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Tar Heels are the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and swept South Carolina State in the first round ... In Saturday's second round against Tennessee, the Tar Heels picked up a 4-1 win ... UP NEXT: UNC will play Nebraska in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Friday in Urbana, Ill.
TRACK & FIELD: Seven Tar Heels improved personal marks at a last-chance meet in Charlottesville, Va. ... UP NEXT: The NCAA will announce the competition for the NCAA East Prelim on Thursday.
