NCAA Chapel Hill Regional Game Three Quotes
June 1, 2013 | Baseball
Game 3: Florida Atlantic 15, Canisius 6
Canisius Head Coach Mike McRae
Opening Statement
"Obviously the game, college baseball, gets dictated by the
ability to throw strikes and take over on the mound and we certainly did not
pitch very well today. It put us in a tough spot in the beginning and it was
tough to climb out of."
On success of the
year:
"Obviously we don't want-it's pretty quick after a game and
a pretty disappointing performance on our end so that's probably the freshest
thing on their minds. We're going to have a chance to reflect; we've got a long
flight, or couple of flights home, and that's going to give us that opportunity
to try and sit back and put things in perspective. It was a terrific team with
an awful lot of talent, and we're going to lose some of that talent, including
the young man beside us. There's no question that having leadership and the
quality of leaders that we had in both Chris Gruarin who wasn't an every day
guy and Brooklyn Foster who was just as good a leader when he was on the bench
as when he was in the field. That's going to be sadly missed. And I really hope
that those two can pass the torch on when it comes to that because that's an
ingredient we've lacked, it's a tough piece to recruit, and it's something that
we need if we want to continue to try and set the bar if not only for this
program but for the league in terms of number of wins and championships."
Senior C Brooklyn Foster
On Nathan Pittman's
performance for FAU:
"It was difficult. He had the ability to hit every pitch
that we threw him and he took quality at-bats all day. It made it tough on us
and tough on our pitchers."
On being a senior and
making it to regionals:
"It was pretty big. It was something that we had our eyes
set on in the beginning of the year. I was pretty excited to do it and I'm glad
that the younger guys got a chance to experience this and come back with
knowing what it feels like to be here."
