September 14, 2013 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kayla Berringer's 14 kills and three blocks led No. 18 UNC to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) sweep of JMU Saturday afternoon.
The Tar Heels are now 8-0 for the season, tying their best start since 2002 when the ACC title team started off 8-0 as well.
Berringer hit a solid .406 and combined with Jovana Bjelica's seven kills and two blocks to lead UNC to its second win of the Carolina Classic. Taylor Treacy tallied eight kills and five blocks, and Victoria McPherson added five blocks and four kills for UNC.
The Dukes pushed hard, with JMU's Janey Goodman's 10 kills and three blocks keeping each frame within four points, but another solid team effort from the Tar Heels secured the win.
UNC takes on Albany Saturday evening in the final match of the 2013 Carolina Classic. JMU faces GW at 5:30 prior to Carolina's match.
