Harrington, McCarty Among 22 Listed On USMNT Camp Roster
January 28, 2014 | Men's Soccer
Among the 22 players on the roster are two former North Carolina men's soccer standouts - defender Michael Harrington (Portland Timbers) and midfielder Dax McCarty (New York Red Bulls).
The team has spent 12 days in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as part of an opportunity to go through a "dry run" for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Sao Paulo will be the site of the team's base camp this summer.
"All of the players have put in a tremendous amount of work and effort these past two weeks," said Klinsmann. "We had a great opportunity to introduce some new players into the Senior National Team Program and they have done extremely well. I think they have a bright future, and now they go back to their clubs with a better understanding of what it takes at the international level. We now move forward with the chance to finish off the camp with the goal of getting a result against Korea."
The camp culminates with the friendly against the Korea Republic on Feb. 1 in Carson, Calif. Kickoff at StubHub Center is set for 2 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and UniMas.
