WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - North Carolina junior Stuart DePaolo moved on to the quarterfinals of the A2 singles draw with a victory on Friday at Wake Forest Tennis Complex. DePaolo gutted out a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(2) win over Tennessee Tech's Eduardo Mena in the draw's first round to reserve his spot in the final eight.

Three other Tar Heels - senior Maik Ulrich, redshirt junior Andrew Gores and junior Chad Hoskins - all fell in their first round singles matches. Gores lost in a walkover due to an injury.

In doubles action, DePaolo and Ulrich notched an 8-4 first-round win against Gardner Webb's Adam Schmidt and Yaroslav Prostakov in the A3 draw. The pair proceeded to fall to Wake Forest's Sam Bloom and Anthony Delcore in the quarterfinals, 8-2.

The Tar Heel duo of Gores and Hoskins suffered a first-round defeat in the B1 doubles draw before bouncing back in the consolation bracket with an 8-2 win over North Carolina A&T.

DePaolo will face Wake Forest's Skander Mansouri on Saturday for a chance to advance to the semifinals of the A2 singles draw. In the A3 doubles bracket, DePaolo and Ulrich will square off against Duke's Jason Tahir and Chris Mengel for rights to third place.
