October 11, 2014 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After rain suspended Friday night's Fall World Series game, the Blue team got two wins on Saturday afternoon over the Navy team to clinch this weekend's series at Boshamer Stadium
On Friday night, the teams were tied at two apiece through the fourth inning. The Blue team took the lead in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of an RBI triple by Josh Merrigan following a leadoff double.
A sacrifice fly by Skye Bolt - his second of the game - plated the second run of the inning before another double and a single pushed two more across to give the Blue team a 6-2 lead.
The game was suspended after the sixth inning due to inclement weather and was resumed in the top of the seventh on Saturday afternoon with the Navy team up to bat and down by four.
Jack Gerahty pitched a 1-2-3 inning for the Blue team to close out the game and give the team its first win of the day.
The two teams then took the field for the second game of the weekend. The Navy team took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff solo home run over the right field wall by Tyler Ramirez.
The Blue team immediately answered in the top of the second, though, when Skye Bolt crushed a three-run home run of his own to give the Blue team a 3-1 lead.
After plating a run in the second to close the gap to one, the Navy team tied the game in the fourth. Elijah Sutherland singled and scored on a double by Brian Miller, making it an even 3-3 game.
But the tie didn't last long. In the top of the fifth inning, the Blue team took advantage of a hit-by-pitch and two singles to retake the lead in the top of the fifth inning. The team would add on three more runs to seal it and secure a 7-3 victory.
The Blue team's starter, Jason Morgan, pitched six strong innings, giving up just one earned run and five hits. Brett Daniels got the start for the Navy team and allowed just three runs through the first four innings of the game. Neither team's starter gave up a walk in the contest.
The second weekend of the Fall World Series will conclude with a game at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
