October 13, 2014 | Men's Soccer
GoHeelsTV will have a live broadcast of the match as Carolina (8-4) hosts its second-to-last non-conference game of the season. The Panthers own a 4-6 overall record, but have dropped their last three including a 2-1 overtime loss at NJIT on Saturday.
UNC leads 4-1 in the all-time series with Georgia State. Last year, Tyler Engel scored in the 22nd minute off a feed from Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler to give Carolina a 1-0 victory on Nov. 5 in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels have reeled off three-consecutive wins by scoring 11 goals in that time frame. Last time out, UNC won 5-0 over Virginia Tech, matching the most goals in a game for the program since early in the 2011 campaign.
Senior Andy Craven was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday after scoring three times, including game-winning goals against both Campbell and the Hokies last week.
The senior forward leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with seven goals and is tied with Syracuse's Emil Ekblom for the league lead with five game winners. That figure is also tied among five players for the most in the nation this season.
Fellow senior forward Rob Lovejoy sits second in the conference with seven assists, the seventh best figure in the country.
As a team, Carolina is tied with Wake Forest for the ACC lead and is 15th nationally by averaging 2.08 goals per game. The Tar Heels also rank 11th in goals (25), 12th in total points (75), 14th in points per game (6.25) and 16th in assists per game (2.08).
All those aforementioned numbers rank 1st or 2nd in the ACC.
At the other end of the field, senior keeper Brendan Moore notched his sixth clean sheet of the season Friday night in the 5-0 blanking of visiting Virginia Tech. Moore is fifth in the ACC with a 0.99 goals-against-average, while his six shutouts put him second in the league.
North Carolina makes the short trip to Raleigh to take on NC State Friday at 6 p.m.
