Tar Heels Spread Cheer At Charles House
December 12, 2014 | Women's Soccer, Carolina Outreach
On Dec. 5, following the start of final exams that morning, members of the UNC women's soccer team spent time at the Charles House Daytime Eldercare Center in Carrboro. The Tar Heels joined Charles House participants for Christmas caroling and social time.
“Our team had a great time visiting the Charles House last week!,” said sophomore Darcy McFarlane. “They were so welcoming to all of us. We really enjoyed not only getting to sing some Christmas carols with them but just getting to know them and talking with them. We had some great laughs too, especially when Paige and Megan did an interpretive dance to '12 Days of Christmas.'"
“For me, visiting the Charles House wasn't just about community service,” said junior Paige Nielsen. “You could easily tell all of the elders enjoyed the little time they had with us by interacting and singing Christmas carols. I imagine some feel isolated from the world, and I know that a hour spent with them, making them laugh and smile, meant the world to them but also the world to me. During finals, sometimes stress overpowers how you react with others, but by taking an hour out of studying to sing with people who loved the company of others, it's a humbling experience and gives you a different perspective of what the important things are in life.”
