POSTGAME NOTES
NORTH CAROLINA 108, EAST CAROLINA 64
DECEMBER 7, 2014
• The Tar Heels are now 6-2 on the season, 3-1 at home and 4-0 all-time against East Carolina.
• The win was the 730th of Roy Williams's head coaching career. He moved past Jerry Tarkanian and Norm Stewart into 17th place in career coaching victories.
• This was the 49th time in 12 seasons that a Roy Williams-coached team scored 100 or more points. The Tar Heels are 48-1 in those games.
• One game after shooting 27.9 percent from the floor against Iowa (the fifth-lowest percentage ever by UNC), Carolina shot a season-high 60 percent from the floor. This was the first time UNC shot 60 percent since last year's opening game against Oakland.
• The Tar Heels shot 71.9 percent from the floor in the second half, its first half shooting that high since they shot 74.2 percent in the first half against Oakland on Nov. 8, 2013.
• Carolina shot under 30 percent in both halves in its previous game against Iowa, but shot better than 50 percent from the floor in both halves today against East Carolina (.512 in the first and .719 in the second).
• The Tar Heels' bench made 14 of 19 shots from the floor today and combined for 10 assists and only one turnover.
• Carolina amassed season highs in points (104), points in a half (60), field goals (45), field goal percentage (.600), defensive rebounds (36), rebounds (tied, 51) and matched its season low with eight turnovers.
• UNC made a season-low one three-pointer (by Theo Pinson). Marcus Paige's ACC-leading streak of 20 straight games with a three came to an end.
• The last time UNC scored 60 points in a half was December 11, 2012, against UAB when the Tar Heels scored 67 in the second half.
• Junior forward Brice Johnson had 19 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. It marked the first time a Tar Heel had that many points and rebounds in a game since Tyler Zeller had 20 points and 22 rebounds against Ohio in the Sweet 16 in St. Louis on March 23, 2012. Johnson's 17 rebounds are also the most since Zeller's 22.
• Johnson had 13 points and 11 rebounds in just the first half of today's game. He combined for 12 points and 11 rebounds in his previous two games against Florida and Iowa.
• Johnson had a double-double in the first half today (13 points and 11 rebounds). That was the first double-double in a half since John Henson had 14 and 11 in the first half against Elon on Dec. 29, 2011.
• Johnson has led the team in scoring or tied for the team lead in scoring in three of UNC's first four home games this year.
• Sophomore forward Kennedy Meeks posted his fifth double-double in seven games with 12 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action. He also blocked two shots and had a career-high three steals.
• Junior forward J.P. Tokoto shared game scoring honors with Brice Johnson with 19 points. That is Tokoto's season scoring high (had 10 in four other games) and his second-highest scoring output as a Tar Heel.
• Tokoto also had a game-high eight assists, the second-highest assist total of his season and career. Tokoto has now led UNC in assists in six of the first eight games this season and has a team-high 38 assists (4.8 per game).
• Tokoto had five assists in the first half, which matched ECU's assist total for the game.
• Tokoto went 5 for 5 from the line, the most free throws he has made in a game without a miss in his career. Tokoto is 17 for 20 from the line in the last four games.
• Marcus Paige had a season-high six assists.
• Joel James matched his season scoring high with seven points (also against NC Central).
• Backup point guards Nate Britt and Joel Berry II combined for 18 points, five assists and no turnovers. Britt scored a season-high 10 points, his fourth career double figure scoring game and his first since he had 11 against Davidson last year. Berry II equaled his season scoring high with eight and had a season-high three assists.
