Peacock Earns All-Americas Honors In 500-Yard Freestyle

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - University of North Carolina senior Stephanie Peacock finished 13th in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday night at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
Peacock's time in the consolation final of the event was 4:39.63. With her 13th-place finish she earned honorable mention All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Peacock also notched All-America honors in both 2011 and 2012. She has twice earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 500-yard freestyle and was a first-team honoree in 2012.
"We are proud of Stephanie Peacock for her performances today in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 13th," said UNC head coach Rich DeSelm. "We are all looking forward to tomorrow when we have many events where we can excel."
As a team, the Tar Heels are in 30th place after the opening day with four team points.
In Thursday's Preliminary Events Tar Heel entries finished as follows:
North Carolina finished 26th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.30. The UNC relay consisted of Hannah Lincoln (22.70), Ally Hardesty (22.45), Lauren Earp (22.43) and Sarah Hitchens (22.72).
In the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle, Stephanie Peacock finished ninth in a time of 4:38.33, Danielle Siverling placed 22nd in 4:42.05 and Emma Nunn placed 53rd with a time of 4:47.57.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Cari Blalock finished 25th with a time of 1:57.68.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Hannah Lincoln posted a 34th place finish with a time of 22.55. Lauren Earp took 53rd place with a time of 23.07.
