Tar Heels Row At ODU
March 24, 2014 | Women's Rowing
"They proved to be the better team today, but I'm very proud of our team, very proud of their fight, very proud of their commitment to speed," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "I know that's going to pay off dividends for us
The varsity eights kicked off the day, with ODU winning in 6:54.30 and UNC following in 7:00.69.
Next were the second varsity eights, with ODU in 7:04.28 and UNC in 7:05.81.
In the varsity four, ODU won in 8:01.54 with 8:10.30.
ODU's third varsity eight raced against UNC's novice eight, winning in 7:43.43 to the Tar Heels' 8:09.92. The 3V8 then raced UNC's second novice eight, winning in 7:38.97 to 8:27.85.
"We felt like there were some big improvements from last year to this year in our race against Old Dominion," Haney said. "The varsity eight last year beat us by 18, this year it was 6 and I felt like we raced them significantly better. The 2V also raced really well. Obviously we have some things to work on, but we're looking forward to coming off of a hard training cycle week and recovering a little bit, keeping that competitive edge, and looking forward to getting back on the water and working on the things that we need to work on with our race plan.
UNC returns to action on Saturday with their only local competition of the season. The Tar Heels will host Georgetown at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, with racing beginning at 8 a.m.
