Tar Heels Claim No. 3 Seed In ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) -The North Carolina men's tennis team has received a first-round bye in the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tournament and the overall No. 3 seed.
Coach Sam Paul's Tar Heels are 22-4 overall and finished third in the ACC standings at 9-2. Carolina will play its first match at 3 p.m. Friday at Cary Tennis Park against the winner of Thursday's first-round match between #6 NC State and #11 Georgia Tech.
Virginia holds the top seed for the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship, which begins on Thursday, April 24 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The Cavaliers (20-2, 11-0 ACC) will play on Friday morning after receiving a bye to the quarterfinals, taking on the winner of No. 8 Florida State (17-10, 5-6) versus No. 9 Miami (14-10. 4-7). Virginia enters the Championship having won the last seven championships and nine of the previous 10.
Along with Florida State and Miami, other first round matchups include No. 5 Clemson (19-7, 6-5) taking on No. 12 Boston College (4-15, 0-11), No. 7 Virginia Tech (13-10, 5-6) playing No. 10 Wake Forest (14-12, 3-8) and No. 6 NC State (16-8, 5-6) squaring off against No. 11 Georgia Tech (7-14, 1-10).
In addition to Virginia, teams that received first-round byes include No. 2 Duke (18-5, 10-1), No. 3 North Carolina (22-4, 9-2) and No. 4 Notre Dame (18-8, 7-4).
Action in the 2014 ACC Men's Tennis Championship is set to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning and will conclude on Sunday, April 27 at 11 a.m. with the championship match.
