GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three Tar Heels have earned spots on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, announced Tuesday by the conference. Seniors Allie Davis and Maria Santoyo and junior Sarah Priest were honored for academic and athletic excellence.
Santoyo earned the recognition for the second year in a row. She was one of 14 student-athletes on the list who also earned All-ACC honors in 2014.
The honor was the first for Davis and Priest.
Davis, from Dublin, Ohio, and Santoyo, from Raleigh, N.C., were seniors in 2014 and graduated from UNC in May, Davis with a major in political science and Santoyo in global studies.
Priest, from Chapel Hill, is a rising senior who is majoring in exercise and sport science.
All three Tar Heels also earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors this season. Davis was the coxswain for the varsity eight, UNC's top boat, and Priest and Santoyo both were part of the V8 lineup throughout the season.
A total of 53 rowers and coxswains were named to the team. They were selected from a pool of 173 nominees who were required to have a 3.0 cumulative GPA as well as a 3.0 GPA during the spring (competition) semester. From those nominees, the team was selected based on both athletic and academic performance.
Notre Dame's Anna Kottkamp was honored as the ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. For the entire All-ACC Academic Rowing Team, click here.
