Sports Illustrated's Liviu Bird (@liviubird) writes that FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges deserves to start in the upcoming MLS All-Star Game.
"Despite a team leaking goals around him, the 24-year-old Hedges hasn't done much to quell speculation that he could be on the brink of a U.S. national team call-up. He has been solid on both ends of the field, scoring twice and adding an assist, all on headers inside the penalty area."
FC Dallas manager Oscar Pareja said after his sides 2-0 win over New England on July 19 that Zach Loyd was in top form in extending the clubs unbeaten streak to eight matches.
Just a day after turning 27, Loyd produced his best match of the season against the Revolution, marauding up and down the right flank in the comprehensive win.
"That's the Zach Loyd that I know at his best. That's the player that I knew and wanted last year to go to the club that I was coaching," Pareja said after the match. "At the beginning of this year, it took him a little while to get back to his level, but the Zach Loyd that I saw today was the one that was called to the national team. That's the one that we want."
Sporting KC midfielder Mikey Lopez made his MLS debut on Wednesday, July 16 in a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew. He becomes the 27th different player to appear in an MLS match for Sporting KC in 2014.
