Playing its first match since earning the No. 1 ranking in the country by College Soccer News, the NSCAA and Soccer America, Carolina scored early courtesy of Tyler Engel, and later in the first half Andy Craven gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 advantage with his team-leading fourth goal of 2014.
Keeper Brendan Moore recorded his fourth-straight clean sheet, lowering his goals-against-average to a minuscule 0.33. The Tar Heel defense hasn't allowed a goal in the month of September, a stretch that is now up to 419:12 of game action.
Jalil Anibaba and the Seattle Sounders added more silverware to their already-packed trophy case Tuesday night by winning the 2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, 3-1, over host Philadelphia Union.
Nyambi Jabang scored once and assisted on another in the 3-0 victory over Pitt last Friday night. He was a honorable mention pick on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.

Eric Lichaj is playing for Nottingham Forest FC, currently third in the Football League Championship in England's second division. The former Tar Heel was recently featured in a preview article leading up to a match against Derby that resulted in a 1-1 draw. Forest hosts Fulham Wednesday night at The City Ground.
