I'm A Tar Heel: Jordan Scarboro
January 14, 2015 | Softball
Tar Heel Nation,
A Tar Heel by definition is a native resident of North Carolina. By that definition, I am a true Tar Heel. I grew up in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and have always bled blue. Not just any blue, the only blue, Carolina Blue. I am a Tar Heel born, a Tar Heel breed, and when I die I'm Tar Heel dead. But my experience at Carolina has allowed me to define a Tar Heel in a different way.
Being a Tar Heel is about perseverance. It's defining your limits, and pushing past. It's about demanding one more from you and your teammates when you feel like you have nothing left. It's never taking the easy route.
Being a Tar Heel is about tradition. It's drinking from the Old Well on the first day of class. It's locking arms and screaming the fight song at the end of every game. It's rushing Franklin Street after beating that team down the road in basketball.
Being a Tar Heel is about honor. It's that feeling you get when you put on that interlocking NC. It's about taking the time after a game to meet the kids who look up to you. It's pride. It's passion. And most of all, it is excellence.
Being a Tar Heel is about camaraderie. It's that instant connection you feel to all others wearing Carolina Blue in the Dean Dome. It's that spontaneous high five you give to the stranger in the stands next to you after an amazing play. It's creating memories and unbreakable bonds with teammates and classmates. It's acting in unison to bond as a group.
Being a Tar Heel is about being competitive. It's about fighting everyday to be the better blue. It's about accomplishing more on and off the field than you thought was possible.
Being a Tar Heel is about gratitude. It's understanding that the program is bigger than you. It's appreciating the veterans and those that have laid the groundwork. On behalf of the softball team and all athletics I would like to say thank you to all donors, fans, alumni and the Rams Club for making my dream a reality.
My name is Jordan Scarboro, and I am most definitely a Tar Heel.
