January 25, 2015 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, N.C. -- After being rained out on Friday, the North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the spring on what turned out to be a very nice day at Boshamer Stadium. The Blue squad jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held on for a 4-3 win in a 7 1/2 inning affair.
Tyler Ramirez got Blue on the board first with a solo home run to right center in the second. Navy tied the score in the fourth when Korey Dunbar's ground out scored Zack Gahagan from third.
Blue responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Adrian Chacon lead off with a double to left center, then MIchael Massardo drove him home with a double. Adam Pate's single then scored Massardo for a 3-1 lead. Blue later went ahead 4-1 in the sixth on an Adam Pate sacrifice fly.
Navy got a run in the seventh on a hit-by-pitch, a walk and an error. Navy then scored its last run in the top of the eighth on Zack Gahagan's RBI single to right.
Zac Gallen and Hunter Williams were the two starters, while Hansen Butler, Trevor Kelley and Zach Rice threw in relief.
Carolina will hold its next closed scrimmage on Sunday at noon. GoHeels will have all of your pre-season Carolina baseball action.
