Carolina Ranked Sixth In Preseason Tennis Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's tennis team is ranked sixth nationally in the preseason rankings issued Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Tar Heels return five starters from last year's record-breaking team and also welcome back from injury senior Esben Hess-Olesen who started as a freshman and sophomore. Brayden Schnur, Ronnie Schneider, Brett Clark, Jack Murray and Oystein Steiro are all returning singles starters from last year's 27-7 squad with reached the NCAA quarterfinals and was ranked seventh in the nation at season's end.
The preseason Top 10 includes USC, Oklahoma, Virginia, UCLA, Ohio State, UNC and Baylor (tied for sixth), Georgia, Texas and Texas A&M.
Sophomore Brayden Schnur, who in the fall won the USTA/ITA national indoor singles title in New York City, is the No. 2 preseason ranked player in the singles rankings. Sophomore Ronnie Schneider is also ranked in the preseason at No. 27.
The Tar Heels open their regular season with home doubleheaders at the Con-Kenfield Tennis Center on January 16 and 19.
