Hitting Facility Construction Underway
January 9, 2015 | Softball
Construction of a new softball hitting facility is currently underway at UNC's Anderson Stadium. The Rams Club is raising funds for the building and donors can make a pledge on the attached donation form.
This brand new facility will provide a much needed indoor practice space that will allow for the softball team to conduct hitting practices year round. This new facility will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience while better preparing the team for competition. The facility is a 5,000 square-foot building that will include three retractable batting cages, a video review and assessment area and state-of-the art LED lighting.
“I am so thrilled about the construction of a new indoor facility. It is a testament to the commitment of the Ram's Club and John Montgomery and the Athletic Department and Bubba Cunningham to enhance the student athlete experience." says head coach Donna Papa. "The opportunity for our players to become better softball players on a daily basis is exciting.
"Over the past 30 years, our softball program has had to scramble for an indoor facility to hit in when the weather has been inclement. We really felt the effects of that more so last season. Our baseball program has been generous in allowing us to use their cages but there was always the unknown of when that could be. We also have spent numerous hours travelling to and from an indoor facility to get our work done. It will be incredible to walk out the door of our team building and step into a new hitting facility that we can call our own.
"Our players now have the opportunity to get better and have the same opportunities as other softball players at a number of schools in our conference and nationally. We are very appreciative and can't wait to start squaring up some balls in the new facility.”
