Lane Leads UNC's All-EAGL Selections

BALTIMORE, Md. - Freshman Morgan Lane led a contigent of six North Carolina gymnasts named to the 2015 All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League first and second teams, announced Monday afternoon. Lane earned first-team honors on balance beam, floor exercise and all-around and she was a second-team performer on the uneven bars.
Joining Lane on the All-EAGL First Team is freshman Kaitlynn Hedelund on bars and senior Haley Watts in the all-around.
Second-team performers include Hedelund on balance beam, junior Sarah Peterson on vault, senior Janell Sargent on balance beam and junior Lexi Cappalli on uneven bars, floor and all-around. The six Tar Heels accounted for 13 first- or second-team honors.
To earn selection to the All-EAGL First Team, a gymnast much be among the top eight performers from the 10-week regular season, which ended Sunday. Second Team All-EAGL on each event and in the all-around includes No. 9-16 ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the regular season.
Lane has been the Tar Heels' most consistent performer this season, scoring a 39.0 or higher in the all-around in seven of 10 meets this year. She had a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 39.170 in the all-around, which ranked fourth in the EAGL. Her RQS of 9.845 on balance beam was second in the league and her 9.855 on floor was fourth.
North Carolina concluded the regular season Sunday by scoring a 194.025 at Auburn. The Tar Heels will compete in the EAGL Championships on Sunday, March 22 in Townson, Md.
