April 1, 2015 | Baseball
ELON, N.C. --- Hunter Williams worked six strong innings as No. 18 North Carolina beat Elon 10-5 Tuesday night at Latham Park. Joe Dudek homered for the Tar Heels, who took advantage of 12 walks from Phoenix pitchers as well as three Elon errors to improve to 17-11 on the year. Carolina will continue its four-game road trip Friday with the first of three at Clemson.
Elon starter Mike Krill (1-1) allowed four runs in the first despite no UNC hits, as the sophomore righty walked three and saw his infield commit three errors behind him. Dudek had two of the three Carolina safties against Krill, including his second home run of the year in the fourth.
Carolina added four more in the sixth in support of Williams (2-1), who had his second straight quality start after going six scoreless against Appalachian State last week. The hard-throwing lefty from Virginia allowed just two runs on two hits in six innings, striking out five.
All nine Tar Heel starters either scored a run or drove one in as UNC won its ninth in a row against the Phoenix. Dudek's two hits led the offense, which scored 10 runs despite just seven hits.
Austin Leeney tripled and homered for Elon, which fell to 12-15 on the year.
Trent Thornton worked the final 2.1 innings for Carolina, which steps out of the ACC Coastal division for the first time starting Friday at Clemson. First pitch at Doug Kingsmore Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m., with live video coverage on ClemsonTigers.com.
