CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With the end of the regular season rapidly approaching, the 16th-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team will travel to Winston-Salem for a match up with No. 13 Wake Forest on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Carolina enters Sunday's match 17-8 (6-3 ACC) and is coming off a thrilling 5-2 Senior Day victory over sixth-ranked Duke. The win completed a perfect 16-0 home slate for the Tar Heels.
Sopohomore Brayden Schnur appeared to return to form against the Blue Devils in his third match back from an injury that forced him to miss the entire month of March. The Pickering, Ontario native topped 11th-ranked Nicolas Alvarez in straight sets. A number of other Tar Heels notched impressive wins against Duke, including sophomore Ronnie Schneider, who bested No. 42 Jason Tahir in three sets to clinch the match.
The latest ITA polls are dotted Carolina players. In singles, Schnur (No. 15), Schneider (No. 24), junior Brett Clark (No. 71) and freshman Robert Kelly (No. 109) all make appearances. Meanwhile, seniors Oystein Steiro and Esben Hess-Olesen combine for the nation's 32nd-ranked doubles pair, and the duo of Clark and Kelly checks in at No. 59.
Sunday's match will have significant implications in the ACC standings, as both teams are tied for fourth place with Duke and Florida State.
Carolina leads the all-time series with Wake Forest 87-14.
