No. 18 Tar Heels Top High Point, 1-0
April 15, 2015 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL --- Hunter Williams won his fourth start in a row and Korey Dunbar's RBI double in the second provided the lone run of the game as No. 18 North Carolina beat visiting High Point 1-0 in six innings Tuesday night at Boshamer Stadium. Williams struck out seven and allowed just three hits in a six-inning shutout, with torrential rain ending the game after a 70-minute delay.
Carolina (23-14) got a leadoff double from Alex Raburn in the second ahead of Dunbar's opposite-field two-bagger against High Point's Michael Hennessey (1-4). Hennessey would escape further trouble in the frame, but a single run would prove to be enough for the surging Williams (4-1).
The best opportunity of the night for the Panthers (17-18) came in the third. Chris Clare and Dane McDermott reached on back-to-back leadoff singles and moved to second and third on a perfect double steal. But Williams struck out the next three High Point batters to end the inning, and HPU got just one more baserunner the rest of the way.
Over his last four starts, Williams has allowed two runs and 10 hits in 24.0 innings with 18 strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 1.14 in the process.
The Tar Heels will wrap up their seven-game homestand Wednesday at 6 p.m. against UNC Asheville.
