Walker Earns Academic All-District Honor

BLACKSBURG, Va. – North Carolina senior Lauren Walker has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team, announced Friday. The award requires at least a 3.3 grade point average to be nominated and takes into account both academic and athletic performance. Walker, a business major from York, Pa., was named to the team as a designated player.

Walker is having the best season of her career and is currently batting .387, more than 150 points better than her previous season-best average. She ranks second on the team in doubles, second in batting average and third in slugging percentage.

She earned the team's Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award for 2014-15 and also has earned Dean's List and ACC Academic Honor Roll honors. In addition to softball, she participates in the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy and is a member of the Finance Society, the Undergraduate Accounting Club and the Sports Business Club.

On Thursday she was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team. UNC is currently competing in the ACC Tournament in Blacksburg, Va., where the Tar Heels (36-13) are the No. 2 seed. Carolina faces Pittsburgh Friday afternoon at 3:30 in the tournament semifinals.

As a member of the All-District team, Walker is now in the running for Academic All-America honors.
