No. 15: No. 17 Carolina 5, No. 21 Georgia Tech 3 - Baseball, March 20, 2015
Georgia Tech's Russ Chandler Stadium has been something of a house of horrors for Carolina baseball in recent years. Entering the 2015 visit, the Tar Heels had lost six of seven series in Atlanta under head coach Mike Fox. And it seemed like another nightmare scenario when Kel Johnson homered to tie the Friday night opener at 3 in the eighth. But Korey Dunbar answered Johnson with a two-run bomb of his own in the ninth to give Carolina a 5-3 win, and the Tar Heels would take the series with another victory one day later.
No. 14: Carolina 7, No. 24 Notre Dame 3 (8 inn.) - Softball, April 26, 2015
No. 24 Notre Dame entered its series with Carolina as one of the nation's hottest teams. The Fighting Irish had won 24 straight games and were perfect at home before the Tar Heels scored a stunning 7-3 win in eight innings. UNC was down to its final strike in the seventh when Jillian Ferraro came up with a two-run double to force extras. Carolina made no mistake in the top of the eighth, loading the bases for freshman stud Taylor Wike. Wike blasted a grand slam to give UNC a 7-3 advantage, and Kaylee Carlson shut the door on Notre Dame in the bottom half to end ND's winning streak.
No. 13: No. 1 Carolina 2, No. 2 Connecticut 1 - Field Hockey, Sept. 28, 2014
Charlotte Craddock's game-winner in the 59th minute gave Carolina its second 1v2 win of the season as the top-ranked Tar Heels beat No. 2 UConn 2-1 in Newton, Massachusetts. The game was tied at 1 at halftime, but Craddock's unassisted goal past Nina Klein gave UNC the win over the reigning national champions. Though the Huskies would go on to repeat as NCAA champs, Carolina's win in September established the Tar Heels as the national frontrunners.
No. 12: No. 8 Carolina 3, No. 3 Florida State 1 - Volleyball, Nov. 14, 2014
The first top-10 affair in ACC volleyball history saw the eighth-ranked Tar Heels take control of the ACC title race with a four-set win over No. 3 Florida State. Carmichael Arena was packed with close to 5,000 fans to see Carolina improve to 21-2 and 13-1 in league play. With volleyball opting against a postseason tournament, the regular-season crown is the top prize in ACC competition, and the Tar Heels would go on to clinch their first conference title since 2008 thanks to the win over the 'Noles. Chaniel Nelson had a team-high 15 kills and Paige Neuenfeldt hit over .600 with nine blocks to lead UNC, which jumped to a program-best ranking of No. 7 following the win.
No. 11: No. 6 Carolina 96, No. 18 Rutgers 93 (2 OT) - Women's Basketball, Dec. 4, 2014
The 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge featured the two winningest active coaches in women's basketball when Sylvia Hatchell's Tar Heels visited C. Vivian Stringer's Scarlet Knights on Dec. 4. The game more than lived up to the stature of its Hall of Fame coaches as the two teams combined for 189 points over 50 minutes of high-level basketball. Carolina trailed by as many as 12 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation before forcing overtime on a pair of Allisha Gray free throws. Rutgers rallied from seven down in the first overtime to force another five minutes, but four late points from senior Latifah Coleman sealed a memorable win for UNC.
