Sophomores Marika Akkerman and Cassandra Vazquez both reached the singles final in their respective bracket, but both came up short on Sunday in straight sets to a pair of ranked players from the University of Florida.
Akkerman fell to No. 32 Belinda Woolcock, 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the black bracket, while Vazquez lost 6-1, 6-2 to 24th-ranked Brianna Morgan in the blue bracket.
Three Tar Heel competitors did earn victories on Sunday, including freshmen Jessie Aney and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer. Aney won the consolation final in the white bracket over No. 35 Paige Hourigan of Georgia Tech by the score of 7-5, 0-6, 6-4.
Ouellet-Pizer topped Cassie Mercer (UVA) 6-1, 6-3 in the royal bracket, and senior Ashley Dai earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Duke's Alyssa Smith while competing in the grey bracketS.
