As of Sunday night, North Carolina is ranked third according to all four major soccer polls - NSCAA, Top Drawer Soccer, Soccer America and College Soccer News. The Tar Heels figure to move up after the 4-2 win over second-ranked Notre Dame last Friday.
700 WINS AND COUNTING…
The 4-2 victory over No. 2 Notre Dame last Friday was the 700th win in program history that dates all the way back to 1953. The Tar Heels own a 700-316-99 all-time record.
EARLY GOALS, AND OFTEN
Eight of the 13 goals scored by Carolina this season have come in the first half, but more specifically they've come in the late stages of the opening 45. Four goals have been tallied in the last four minutes of the first half, and three have come in the final five seconds of the half. The first were in back-to-back matches against Santa Clara and William & Mary. The Tar Heels did it again at the 4:59 mark against Notre Dame.
SCORING LEADERS
Raby George and Tucker Hume lead the team with seven points apiece on three goals and one assist. Zach Wright has two goals and two assists for six total points, while Alan Winn has five points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Colton Storm has four points on one goal and two assists all coming in the win over the Fighting Irish.
