CHAPEL HILL—No. 2 North Carolina scored twice in the second half to beat the University of North Florida 2-1 at Fetzer Field Monday night.
It took until the 50th minute for the Tar Heels (6-0-1) to break through. Raby George found Alan Winn on the right side, who connected on a tight cross with Omar Holness to push Carolina up 1-0. The goal is Holness's first of the season.
North Florida (3-5) responded in the 57th minute with a foot race past the Tar Heel defense to tie up the match at 1-1. Alex Morrell took the ball up the right side of the box, tripping over the defense after the shot, but not before the ball found the back of the net.
Tucker Hume recorded his fourth goal of the season in the 82nd minute with a rocket off the left foot in the box. An assist from Jonathan Campbell found Hume on the cross to cement the 2-1 Tar Heel victory.
The Tar Heels will return to Fetzer Field Friday night to take on Duke (4-2-1) at 7 pm.
