Kelly And Peck To Play For Title
October 18, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Carolina's Robert Kelly and Josh Peck will play for the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional doubles championship Tuesday against the top-seeded team in the draw. The Tar Heels meet Wake Forest's Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphin at 11:30 a.m. at Cary Tennis Park for the title.
Kelly and Peck won twice on Monday to advance. They opened with a quarterfinals win over South Carolina's Thomas Mayronne and Andrew Schafer, 6-4, 6-4. In the semifinals a few hours later, the Tar Heels beat Duke's Jason Lapidus and Vincent Lin 7-5, 6-2 to earn a spot in Tuesday's finals.
Kelly, a junior, and Peck, a freshman, were one of two Carolina teams in the quarterfinals. Senior Chad Hoskins and sophomore Arturo Schmidt also reached that point before falling Monday morning to Mansouri and Seraphin, 6-1, 6-4.
Three Tar Heels – Blaine Boyden, Kelly and Ronnie Schneider – made the quarterfinals in the singles draw.
