October 6, 2016 | Men's Soccer
North Carolina (8-1-1, 3-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to five matches (4-0-1) with a 1-0 victory over No. 20 UNCW on Tuesday. Senior Nico Melo scored the decider in the 68th minute, and keeper James Pyle notched his third-straight clean sheet and seventh of the season. Carolina enters Friday night having not allowed a goal in the last 359 minutes, 58 seconds, last conceding in the first half of the 4-1 win at William & Mary on Sept. 20. It marks the longest scoreless stretch by Tar Heel opponents since 2014.
Virginia (5-2-3, 0-2-2) also picked up a 1-0 non-conference win on Tuesday over Hofstra. The Cavaliers seek their first ACC win, but have draws with nationally-ranked Clemson and Virginia Tech.
