Melo Named On TDS National Team Of The Week
November 23, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Nico Melo, a senior midfielder at North Carolina, was the runner-up for the TopDrawerSoccer Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors after his outstanding performance last weekend in the 3-2 double overtime victory over FGCU.
The Kissimmee, Florida, native tied an NCAA Championship program record with three assists, equaling the mark set by Matt Crawford against Winthrop on Nov. 22, 2002. Melo helped spur on the attack that registered 17 shots in the second half against the Eagles, overcoming a pair of one-goal deficits in the thrilling victory.
Melo leads the Tar Heels with eight assists, the second highest figure in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
9th seeded Carolina has reached the NCAA Round of 16 for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, and will visit No. 8 seed and fellow ACC member Syracuse on Sunday at 2 p.m., in central New York.
