Carolina Clinches ACC Regular Season Title
April 15, 2016 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina (25-2, 13-0 ACC) extended its winning streak to 14 matches in a row with the sweep of the Tigers at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. A rare loss from No. 1 Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay in doubles was offset by a clinching win by Ashley Dai and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer on court three to give Carolina an early 1-0 edge.
Sophomore Marika Akkerman cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court five, marking the first of four straight set wins by the Tar Heels. No. 1 Carter was next to post a win over No. 40 Ayan Broomfield on court one.
Ouellet-Pizer secured the Tar Heel win on court four, and 55th-ranked Jessie Aney made it 5-0 with a win on court three.
Seniors Dai and No. 39 Whitney Kay posted super-breaker wins on courts 6 and 2, respectively, to complete the 7-0 shutout.
UNC closes out the regular season on Sunday at No. 16 Georgia Tech at 12 p.m. in Atlanta.
