April 17, 2016 | Women's Golf
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team jumped two spots to finish fourth at the ACC Championship on Sunday. UNC had its best round of the tournament going 2-under par 286 on the day and had the second lowest team score on the day. North Carolina finished the tournament 20-over par, 884.
“We are proud of how the team finished strong, especially after a slow start for some” head coach Jan Mann said. “Leslie and Kelly both had great rounds today and tournament overall. It was exciting to see Leslie finish with an eagle on 18 and Kelly have five birdies on the back nine. Even though we would have liked to have finished higher, it is a good confidence builder going into the NCAA Regionals. We want to thank the ACC for putting on a great event, Sedgefield CC for all their hospitality and all the UNC supporters who came out to watch us this weekend.”
Leslie Cloots highlighted the round tying her to-par career low at 4-under 68. Cloots had five birdies, a bogey, a double-bogey and an eagle. Cloots' eagle came on the final hole of the tournament. Cloots ended the tournament tied for fifth at even par. Kelly Whaley posted her first collegiate round under par after shooting a 1-under 71 on Sunday. Whaley's round featured six birdies, including five on the back nine, and five bogeys. Whaley finished tied for 10th at 3-over par for the tournament. Lexi Harkins carded an even par 72 with four birdies and four bogeys. Harkins finished the tournament at 10-over par and tied for 29th. Tied for 41st at 14-over par are Bryana Nguyen and Elizabeth Mallett. Nguyen was 3-over on the day while Mallett was 9-over par.
Virginia took home the team championship at 9-under par. Wake Forest took second at 2-over par while Duke finished third at 19-over par. North Carolina finished fourth at 20-over par and NC State took fifth at 22-over par.
