UNC Hosts Campbell Wednesday In Final Home Game Of 2016
April 26, 2016 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL - Carolina softball concludes the home season on Wednesday, April 27, by hosting the Campbell University Camels in a nonconference game at 5 p.m. The game will be streamed live on GoHeelsTV and live stats can be found at UNCLiveStats.com.
Clashes with the Camels (23-27, 10-12 Big South)
Carolina has had immense success over the years against Campbell, running a 58-14 overall record against the Camels. Of the 14 losses, four of them came back in 1977, the first season of UNC's program. The two teams have faced 44 times in fastpitch, with Carolina going 37-7 dating back to 1990. UNC and Campbell have played each other in all but three seasons since 1990, with last season's matchup in Buies Creek getting rained out.
Campbell won the most recent game played between the pair, taking a single game, 9-3, on March 11, 2014, in Chapel Hill. UNC is 29-6 all time at home against the Camels, including 9-3 at Anderson Stadium.
Tar Heels Take Series With No. 18 Irish on Senior Weekend
After spending three weeks on the road, Carolina returned home on April 24 to host No. 18 Notre Dame in a three-game ACC series. A three-run home run by Kendra Lynch in the bottom of the first got the Tar Heels started in game one. Notre Dame tied the score in the top of the second, but a two-run double by Taylor Wike gave UNC back the lead, and Lynch retired the final 10 batters of the game to win the opener, 7-4.
After dropping the nightcap, UNC returned to the field on Monday night for the rubber match. The Irish took the first lead, but a three-run home run by Berlynne Delamora put the Heels in front in the bottom of the third. A fifth-inning grand slam tied the score at 6-6, but Kristen Brown delivered the go-ahead run with her school-record 10th career sacrifice fly to give UNC a 7-6 victory and win its fourth ACC series of the year.
The Tar Heels have now played three games against ranked opponents on national television and have won all three. UNC defeated No. 10 Georgia on SEC Network on April 6, while both Notre Dame wins were broadcast on ESPNU.
